A little about myself...
I am in my 4th year teaching here at Gurrie Middle School. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 2012 with a B.A. in English. I am very excited about the 2017-2018 school year in language arts. Throughout the course of the year we will be using the Reaad 180 program to help improve your child's skill set in reading, fluency, vocabuary and writing. Be prepared for parent-communication through email and paper-based handouts during the school year.
Our first unit of the year will focus on literature and the story elements that come along with that. We will be reading numerous fictional texts that have scary and uncanny elements, many of which are written by Edgar Allan Poe. Along with that we will be reading a novel as a class enittled "Crossing the Wire" by Will Hobbs.
Students will be expected to read for 30 minutes each day after school. Those readings can include independent reads, eReads, and other texts/readings of personal interest (i.e., magazine or online articles).
