Welcome to the Seventh Avenue
School Social Work Page!
Today, children face an increasing amount of difficulties in life that act as barriers to academic achievement, including family conflict, physical or mental disabilities, and violence. School social workers act as advocates to help children remove these barriers and acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary for them to reach their academic potential using counseling, support groups, and crisis intervention and prevention programs. Through promoting a positive school environment, collaborating with teachers, and setting specific and individualized goals for students, school social workers help provide equal opportunities for students of all backgrounds and abilities to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially. Throughout the year, I will be implementing a variety of programs and curricula at Seventh Avenue, including Social Thinking, Second Step, and Zones of Regulation.
