School Safety Protocol Enhancements
Dear 105 Families,
The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority. In an effort to ensure that we are aligned to safety and security best practices, La Grange District 105 will begin using the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to respond to security incidents. The Standard Response Protocol, developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation, will guide our emergency response. Standard Response Protocol offers clear, distinct, common language among first responders, students, and staff.
Aligned to SRP, our schools prepare for the following situations:
Secure – A situation outside the building; students remain inside and learning continues.
Lockdown – A situation inside or very close to the building; doors are locked and safety procedures are followed.
Evacuate – Students and staff move out of the building due to a safety concern (i.e. fire alarm).
Shelter – Students move to designated safe areas inside the building (i.e. severe weather).
Hold – Hallway movement is paused to maintain safety or allow emergency response (i.e. medical situation.)
Students and staff practice these procedures through age-appropriate drills so they know what to do and can respond calmly if needed.
You may notice that some of the terminology has been updated (from our previous language) to provide clear and concise communication that aligns with language used by first responders who may be onsite in an emergency from various communities.
For more specific information on the Standard Response Protocol, please see the attached document.Communication with Families
If an emergency occurs, families will receive timely updates through ParentSquare. Please ensure your contact information and notification preferences are current.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our schools safe. If you have questions, please contact me or your child’s principal.
Sincerely,Brian J. Ganan
