Hello Ideal Families, Thank you for another great week at Ideal Elementary School! Here are your Friday Folder AnnouncementsFriday Folder 3-2-18.pdf and some celebrations are in order! First of all, we want to congratulate our District 105 4th/5th grade Math team winners in the recent Math Olympiad! They achieved first place in a competition with multiple districts in the area and dozens of team! Our very own Adrian in Ms. Housman's 4th grade room is part of that team! Secondly, we want to thank the Countryside Police for giving two of our homerooms a pizza party in honor of their fundraising through Coins for a Cause to support the Special Olympics. The two homerooms that received a pizza party today were Ms. Larocca's and Ms. Swiatek's room and Chief Ford and Officer Bisignani from the Countryside police attended these parties today. Speaking of the Countryside Police, they also were on hand yesterday for our Lockdown drill that I mentioned in a previous communication. We received positive praise for our preparedness and continue to refine our practices to maximize our safety procedures. We have great communication with them and will be doing additional training with them both in our building and our staff to ensure that we have the best-training to prepare for any event and maintain a safe environment for learning. We will remain vigilant during these difficult times and, based on the feedback from Chief Ford, encourage all parents to have constructive, age-appropriate dialogue with their students about safety everywhere, including schools. We are also very excited about an upcoming event- The District 105 Career Fair. This event will include more than 40 parents and community members who will showcase their careers and how education prepared them for success. The event is on Thursday, March 15th from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Gurrie Middle School Gyms. All 5th-8th grade students and parents are invited to attend...
Good afternoon Ideal Families, I wanted to reach out to you proactively to make you aware of a traffic incident that transpired at morning drop off. In our turnaround, a minivan made contact with a parked school bus that was unloading students. All three students on the bus were seen by the nurse to verify there were no serious injuries and their parents were contacted about this incident. Our staff was supervising at the time and our traffic cones were out per our regular procedures. The Countryside Police were contacted, investigated, and took a report of this incident, as they would with any other traffic accident. This is a great reminder for all of us to remember to always be mindful of student safety when we drop them off and pick them up. Please be sure to put all cars in park when students get out of the car. Thank you for your support and please reach out with any questions that you have. Sincerely, Tim Sheldon Principal of Ideal
Hello Ideal Families, We had another incredible week here at Ideal. Whether it was the science fair or the Battle of the Books at Gurrie, our students were engaged and demonstrating their learning with poise and grace! Please take a moment to read our Friday Folder Announcements: Friday Folder Part 2 2-23-18.pdf Also here are some important highlights: On Thursday, March 1st we have our Kindergarten Registration event at 6:30 pm. If you or someone you know has a student that will be in kindergarten next year, we hope to see you there. To provide enough space for this event, the community center will be closed that evening. On Friday, March 2nd our 5th and 6th graders have a Sock Hop at Gurrie from 7-9 pm. This is a great event to meet students from the other D105 schools and also have fun, food, music, and dancing! Please support our Monday Funday PTO fundraiser on March 5th. The sign up form is in the Friday Folder materials and is due on March 1st. Finally, I wanted to let you know that we will be holding a lockdown drill on Thursday, March 1st. This is a drill that we have done twice before as a school and will be doing it again with the Countryside Police Department. Recent events have demonstrated the sad necessity of these drills. Rest assured that our students' and staff's safety is our number one priority. We want to maintain great communication about our efforts to sustain the wonderful learning environment that we have here at Ideal Elementary. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns that you have, but we wanted to make sure you are aware of our efforts in this area. My door is always open and I am just a phone call away to ensure that you feel safe about sending your students here to Ideal Elementary. Thank you, Tim Sheldon
