    English Language Learners (ELL)

    Welcome to the English Language Learner Department.  Students who qualify for program services through an English language proficiency screening receive EL services at their school. Students receive varying levels of language and content support based on the English proficiency level, academic and language needs of the student. The majority of the instruction takes place in the general education classroom with push-in support from the EL teacher.

    Ms. Bonnie McAuley earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois and her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the National Louis University. She has been a teacher in District 105 for five years.  Prior to working in District 105, Ms. McAuley taught in Venezuela and Costa Rica.

    Mrs. Krystal Schmidt earned her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Advanced Professional Specializations from National Louis University of Chicago. She has her ESL, Bilingual, and Early Childhood Special Education endorsements. Mrs. Schmidt has been teaching for 5 years. Prior to working in District 105, she taught kindergarten in Oak Lawn.

    Ms. Carolyn Regan earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa and her Master's Degree in Education from National Louis University.  She has her ESL and Bilingual endorsements.  Ms. Regan has been teaching for 20 years. She has been in District 105 for 7 years.  Prior to working in District 105, she taught in Puerto Rico and Colombia.

    Mrs. Lisa Ritter is proud to be an ELL teacher at Idea.She has her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in ESL and Middle School. Ms. Ritter also has a Masters Degree in Reading along with a Reading Specialist endorsement. She is passionate about teaching and meeting the needs of every learner and strives to create a community of learners that nurtures growth in a positive environment.

    Mrs. Sarah Cruz earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois-Chicago.  She has her ESL and Bilingual endorsements.  Mrs. Cruz has been teaching for 24 years.  She has been in District 105 for 6 years.  Prior to working in District 105, Mrs. Cruz taught in Puerto Rico and the Chicago Public Schools.

    Mrs.Stefanie Mellender earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University and her Master’s degree in reading from Concordia University. She has continued her education with an endorsement in teaching English Learners from National Louis University and is currently earning a certification in student centered coaching from University of Wisconsin- Madison. Mrs. Mellender was a classroom teacher at Hodgkins School and Seventh Avenue School for 14 years before becoming an English learner teacher in 2021.

    Mrs. Johanna Enright earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Taylor University and her Master's Degree in Reading from Concordia University.  She has her ESL endorsement.  Mrs. Enright has been teaching for 12 years. She has been in District 105 for 12 years.  As a child, Mrs. Enright was a student of District 105.
